So What does the PTSO really Do? Where does all the money go?

During The 2023-2024 School Year, we spent:

EVENTS: $25,702

Without your money and volunteer support, we could not have hosted all the wonderful events for our students and their families. Events like the Glow Party, Family Movie Night, Dance Through the Ages, Korean Culture Night, Month of the Military Child celebration and Bingo night, and the End of Year Bash. Our goals with our family events is to offer the opportunity for students and their families to connect with one another through fun and engaging activities at ZERO cost to them! We want all of our students and their families to be able to partake regardless of their economic status!

The PTSO is also responsible for the Spring and Fall book fairs where all books are purchased upfront by the PTSO. Our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to research, plan, and resource books without external help. During the fall book fair, we were also able to coordinate, through our amazing school librarian Mrs. Jennifer Hwang, 2 virtual author visits! Awesome children’s book authors David Shannon and Troy Cummings visited with our kids offering drawing tutorials and book discussions.

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS & UPGRADES: $9,656

Last year because of your financial and volunteer contributions, we were able to introduce “Oscar the Osprey”, the first ever HWES Mascot! Since his introduction, he has become a beloved part of the school and an invaluable tool which boosts the morale of not just our students but our staff alike! The PTSO also assisted with numerous beautification projects around the school like the Purple Up wall mural, the new library mural, and the collaborative mural designed by our visionary Art1 teacher, Mrs. Jill Flummerfelt. SCHOOL PROGRAMS & ADMIN SUPPORT: $9,716

Last School year, we delivered over 2,200 bags of popcorn to students and staff, delivered 151 Birthday Grams and hosted a birthday lunch for 151 students! We also fulfilled 480 Spirit Wear orders, provided 945 free Purple Up shirts to each student and staff member for Month of the Military Child, and awarded $1,378 in teacher grants.
